How does Photo Licensing work?
Put simply, copyright automatically falls to the photographer for any images they take. Photo licensing allows the photographer to license models/clients to use his/her imagery with their legal consent, within a set of documented terms and conditions.
For instance, a license may be issued to a new model who wishes to use photographs taken by Tempus Photographical in her portfolio for personal and non-trade use. In such an instance, a ‘no fee’ license would be issued so that the client/model could use the imagery to showcase their work, however, if any such imagery was required for any other purpose such as publication in a magazine, then the model/client would have to apply for a new license to cover this additional use. In such circumstances a fee would be levied, payable to Tempus Photographical.
